40’s Fabulous and Frustrated

As a woman in her mid 40’s, I began my perimenopause journey (or at least showed symptoms) around 43 years old. I am 46 now, and things have popped up out of nowhere, and progressed without even asking if it’s ok. I mean the nerve!

Mom said “One day I had my period and the next day I didn’t. It was that easy.” That’s exactly what my mom said to me when I began to ask her questions… I’m sorry but WTF! That is not true! I lived with you during that time in your life… I think you just forgot! Now, I did NOT say this to my mom by any means – the woman is almost 80 at this point… BUT that’s what went through my mind!

After doing a lot of research and talking to some friends at work – it was clear I was not in this alone… Although my mom made me think so. Shout out to Tamsen Fadal! One of my colleagues recommended her book called How to Menopause: Take Charge of Your Health, Reclaim Your Life, and Feel Even Better than Before (Game Changer!) I read the book twice. After thinking that my menopause journey was something not to discuss, and that I was the only one feeling and dealing with all of this randomness that my body wants to deal out – that book was a God Send!

Randomness: Defined as random shit that happens to a woman’s body during this wonderful and awkward time in her life! 1 – Foot pain 2 – Brain Fog 3 – Dry Vag 4 – Shoulder stiffness 5 – Joint pain 6 – Weight Gain… and the list goes on. Sometimes I miss my old body (old meaning my younger body) a body that didn’t defy me. I think eventually women become familiar and comfortable with their older selves (this time meaning actually old “46”) – but for now, I am uncomfortable with it! Let me repeat that… I am uncomfortable with it. Not my husband, not my parents, not my friends, not my co-workers – JUST ME! All of the people around me are supportive and think I look amazing… but this change that my body is going through does not make me “feel” amazing!

My husband is loving and caring and very understanding! God bless him! I am so thankful for him and how he does his best to listen to me and understand the randomness I am going through. My one wish for every woman out there going through this randomness stage in life (is that you would find that supportive man in your life that will be there for you and understand OR rather do his best to understand what you are going through. I believe that is an important part of the acceptance process (at least it is for me).

That is all I have to write at this time… My disclaimer is this:

Everything written in here is my opinion and my feeling

I do not mix my words

I have a kind heart and am never out to hurt or offend anyone – but I am opinionated and do have strong feelings about what I write about here.

I am a cancer survivor also. I had Hodgkins Disease in 2005 (I was 25 years old). It was one of the worst times in my life – if you are out there and see this and need someone to listen – I am here and i will listen. Please understand, if you ask me questions about what is was like and what to expect, I will be direct and I will not mix my words as I do not believe in Sugar Coating something that has no sugar and I will tell you exactly what is coming and how it felt so you are prepared.

Thank you for reading… More to come.
